B03- About the softwares

For our ‘Tingu’ animation film and specially for its 3D work, we will be using a software, called ‘Blender’. You may have heard about 3D studio MAX or MAYA. Blender is also one of such 3D softwares. Of-course you are totally free to use your software of choice later in your career. In fact I recommend you to try several other softwares if possible. Because software is not more important than HOW IS IT GETTING USED. The fundamentals are same in all softwares, it is our skills that matter.

As discussed earlier, we are going to use blender for this series. The most prominent reason is that it is completely FREE. You can use it legally for any kind of commercial work too. Say bye bye to PIRACY. Also, it is very easy to install and use. Cost is not the only reason, in most of the areas it is very advanced too. Blender is being used worldwide by many studios and film makers. Even we at ‘Advaita Studios’ are using Blender from last many years, for all our commercial and professional productions. Blender has become a ‘Proven’ software by now.

You will be able to use Blender for almost all types of work relating to 3D animation. The biggest feature of Blender, that I like most, is that it is very simple to use. As compared with other softwares, Blender takes less time to learn than others. Blender has got very good tools for 3D modeling, animation and rendering. Technically speaking blender has tools for sculpting, 3d painting, motion capture, camera tracking, game development, particles, compositing, video editing, programming, simulation and so on.

In this series, we will be using many of the tools. If you want more information about other areas, then you can always ask me. You can also watch our other Free and Pro training sessions. I will be updating the contents from time to time. Also you can visit our studio at Kothrud, Pune. We run some advanced limited batch training there.

Anyways, you can surely and happily opt for blender. As discussed earlier, you can use blender on any OS like Windows, Mac or Linux on any average hardware. We will use some other softwares too along with blender. For example, some 2d image editing software like ‘Photoshop’ for storyboards, some work processing software like Microsoft word or Apple pages, etc. You can use any software for that matter. Blender will be our central area of discussion. We will learn how to use blender in our later posts.

Till then, its good bye from me, see you soon.
